Aims and objectives

My aim is to create a more interactive racing game, using the touch screen for more in game control. I've extended the level views over two screens and still introduced the new touch screen technology used to control characters movement. The characters are rubber and are able to stretch for items while stearing for others.

Main aim to develope new racing game ideas.
-rubber characters
-rubber levels, bounces you back when you crash?
-new view
-simple icons so screen is clear for in game movement
-original power ups
-original attack system

Screen layout

I enjoy playing racing games but some racing game screens are over crowded with speedometors and the track indication etc. Using the DS console which has the advantage of two screens there sould be no reason to crowd the screen. I have designed the game to be easy to see especially because your having to watch two screens. The speedometor in my game is really simple to follow, the large hand counts the time to the next check point, and the smaller hand counts the check points to the next level, and the smaller monitor shows what speed your travelling. The only other perminant icon on the screen in game is the power bar that sits at the bottom of the bottom screen out the way, nothing else is in the way to distract the racing. when you get hit of collect a rubber powerball for health the health icon pops up opposite the timer at the top of the top screen, with the same layout as the speed monitor. The larger monitor idicates how much health and the other monitor tells you how many lives you have left.

Game Ideas

Menus:

The menus will be simple icons viewed on the bottom screen whiles the top screen will show animations in the background. If you hold down the (a) button and then click on one of the icons you'll be able to drage the icon round on a rubber band extention, There is no reall reason to add this to my game onlt to make the menu screen more original and fun. It will act as a waiting room game.

The loadind menu's will act in a similar way to the menu icons, if you hold down the (a) button you'll be able to drag the loading bar around using the touch screen.

Characters:

I've designed six main characters using flash and there will be the ability to design your own character and vehical. you can also upgrade your image with money earnt by racing.

Ergonomics

History Of Ergonomics
Sony Ergonomics

I've researched into the ergonomics of the DS and hand held consoles because the feel of the console effects the game play and the controls. The DS is original for the touch screen control pad and feels great to play with and manuvour round in game. The rest of the console feels similar the the other generations of Nintendo console. It feels better made than the original game boys but not any different to the Advanced SP. Nintendo have gone for the smart look, from the original brick gameboy that won't break. The new DS is smart but I doubt it would handle a knock or drop? It's bigger than the last hand held consoles as well but it would still happily sit in your pocket.
